OFF-ROAD - Raines All Over the 'Gator
By Kit Palmer
Alligator Hunter 3/4/2004

AM-Pro Yamaha's Jason Raines (pictured) scored the overall win at the Daytona Dirt Rider's Alligator Enduro today. The AMA National Hare Scramble Champion was quick out of the gate and jumped into an early lead, which he held on to through out the event. His teammate Randy Hawkins gave him his biggest challenge over the eight checks, but Raines managed to pull off the victory with two points to spare over Hawkins. Raines dropped a total of nine points, while Hawkins dropped 11.

Third place went to Husqvarna's Fred Hoess who was troubled a couple of times by fouled spark plugs. Hoess and Kawasaki rider Tommy Veator both dropped 13 points on the day, but Hoess came out on top on the tie-breakers. Stephen Edmondson rounded out the top five with 14 points.

KTM rider and eight-time National Enduro Champion Dick Burleson won the A Masters class in ninth overall. Burleson dropped 16 points.

In other classes, Kawasaki-mounted Jeff Fredette edged out KTM rider Alan Randt for the A Senior-class win, while Travis Hayes topped the 200cc A class with a 12th-overall ride. John Manning Sr. topped the S/Senior class, while Michael Sigetty won the Vet A division.

Think about it - DB won his first national enduro championship 30 years ago. And it's been over 20 years since his last national enduro championship.
