I am a weekend warrior, novice rider. And I want to get a 2 stroke 125 because I never owned one and like the size and handling characteristics. I would like to get the KX 125, but I read all the mags and they bash the suspension, saying it's outdated and that the YZ is tops. I really like the YZ, but too costly ($5k+) for what I'm doing and I can get a great deal on an 04 KX ($3,699). But, my question is will it really matter to me, I'm not racing competitively, only against my buddies and we'll go to the Allegheny Forest for some mostly open trail riding. I just want to have FUN. It seems like all the 2 strokes today are pretty awesome and I'll never be able to get everything out of it anyways. I'm coming off an 02 KDX 200, so I'm assuming the suspension will probably still feel awesome even if the experts say its outdated.

Does anyone own an 03 or 04 KX 125?
Are they tough to ride?

Thanks ;)

Don't believe the hype

For a rider at your skill level, I doubt that you could tell much difference between a stock KX 125 and Bubba's works bike. The magazines often make mountains out of mole hills when comparing bikes. Besides, even the worst suspension can be fixed for a few hundred dollars. Just shop for the newest and cleanest bike you can afford and everything will be great. And yes, the suspension on a KX 125 will be much better than what you are used to.

You could buy a used 125, like a older kawasaki, and spend all the money you saved to make performance upgrades to it. Just a thought.

I love my '04 KX 125 it's been an awesome bike I do mainly MX on it JR/novice level racing there's nothing wrong with the bike I like it more then my '02 YZ 125. I would say they are very even in terms of power it's one of the fastest 125's out there. If you can get the KX for that cheap what the hell is stopping you!!! The YZ is not the much better of a bike so erase any doubts that it could be and get the KX especially if your vertically challenged like me i'm only 5'5" the KX fits me better than the much taller feeling YZ.
