Where???

Where will the AMA series take place. If you go to http://www.racerxill.com and read the stuff on the right hand column, you will see the AMA/Jams release. It states that they will hold events in stadiums in major markets. The Clear Channel guys are letting you know that they already have Anaheim, Bank one, Qualcomm, & the Georgia Dome.

At first, when CCE anounced Anaheim and Bank One, their announcement stated that they had exclusive deals with the venue. These last two announcements don't seem to state that the deal with Qualcomm and the GA Dome are exclusive.

So, will both tours stop at these stadiums. I noticed that the AMA has partnered with the KING of Splits...Tony George, owner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. They may have to have all of the events there. The could hold the race on the 9-hole golf course in the infield. :p

How's this going to work???:think

The AMA may have good intentions, but Clear Channel's deep pockets, business savvy and control of key venues means the AMA is playing catch-up.

If Clear Channel plays hardball (they will), the AMA/Jam series is in trouble, IMO. The AMA's agreement with Clear Channel should have specified that venue's were contracted to the AMA, not the AMA's promotor.

In the short term, 2 series competing for riders could be good for purses and appearance money.

Some great posts on a serious topic.
It is my understanding, that the AMA did have a contractual agrrement woth the stadiums, but that endes in 02 so CCE was fre to lock up these other venues.
Since the AMA has locked up Speedvision as a TV sponsor, and will be televising ALL the SX's "LIVE" yhey just moved up a notch, not to mention the fact that the AMA has said they are interested in "Profit-Sharing with the riders. While this won't mean much to the top riders, it will to the Privateers.
The AMA has Honda (RC) and that is a BIG start. If they (AMA) can lock up the factories, then the battle will be over. Who knows, this might elevate the Arenacross series to some larger stadiums.
(KWJams): I know what ya mean about Mike, he has done that to me on several different Forums.

I think CCE is far from locking up all the venues. Who knows - maybe we will see Supercross at the Rose Bowl (remember the paristyle turn?) or Dodger Stadium instead of Anaheim. Maybe we will see a return to Seattle. If everybody goes with the AMA, the people that get hurt by CCE locking up stadiums are the fans in those areas. No more supercross for them.

Just look at the way speedvision handles superbike racing, if SX comes off half as good it will be ten time better than CC/ESPN is doing. Also, top dogs from Honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki all sit on the board of AMA, what series do you think their riders will ride in. Also there has been a down turn in the last few years amount of money teams will pay past their premier rider, and the number of riders a team will sponser. In the old days when it was not popular, each major team had at LEAST 6 top riders, 2 for each class. Now we have less classes, and less top riders per team per class.

I see this change as one for the better. That said, all changes have their period of discontinuity and disruption. 2002 may not be the best season of racing we have seen. But, again, if speedvision does it right, everyone will be back to AMA by 2003.

Another nail in the AMA's coffin . . .

From www.racerxill.com
Racer X Illustrated and Clear Channel Entertainment Announce Agreement To Produce Official Supercross Souvenir Programs through 2005
AURORA, Ill. (December 14, 2001) - Clear Channel Entertainment and DMC Publications, part of the Racer X Illustrated family, announced today an agreement to name DMC Publications as the exclusive and official publisher of souvenir yearbooks for Clear Channel produced EA SPORTS Supercross, National and Regional Arenacross Series and The IFMA Freestyle Motocross Tour through 2005.

I know they could also do the programs for the AMA series, but it just makes things look worse and worse.

I know DC is a CCE fan. This is a non-issue if CCE really does end up doing the SX series, but if they don't, it might be am omen.
It's ALL about $$$$$$$$!!!

There is no doubt the transition period from the current venue to the next one could be bumpy. But I believe this is what the sport needs, and that it will only benifit the majority of pro-racers, wich are not the top 10. The AMA has failed on every single front to help or insure that the privateer is a thriving group worthy of reward, or hell even a fair shot. If we are going to truly take the sport to "next level", I don't believe it will be under the guidence of the AMA.

Now that's absurd. I work in publishing / printing - I layout books all the time. There is no cost containment plan going on there; I see no benefit in saying "so-and-so will produce our books, a year from now, for three years." Of course, it's a power grab. CCE clearly wants to hold all the cards they can. :silly:

Hell, I'll do the programs for the AMA series, just have 'em call me. For less money than DMC Publications, I'm certian. ;)

Still don't know if this is good or bad. Just being able to see SX on TV would be a bonus for me... the 3 I tried to watch were all preemted. Sheesh.

I don't know how many people have read the interview on supercross.com, but it is an intersting opposing view presented by JAM Sports - suggested reading. Plus there is a good interview with MC. He says he is neutral on taking sides, has a long relationship with both. Then if you want to read between the lines, he says that what SX needs to go further is live TV coverage on Saturday night..... hmmmmmm
