Last weekend, I was in so. cal to pick up my new bike and me and 4 other dirt riders struck up a conversation on the greatest 250 of all time. After very little discussion we agreed that the answer was the '01 CR250. :moon: OK, it just happened that all, except one, just happened to own an '01 but we all seemed to have a very convincing argument. Just thought I would stir the pot up a bit.

I have since rode my '01 CR250 for the first time and am so far very happy with it (compared to a pro supercross prepped '03 KTM 250SX and an '02 KTM 300MXC). The CR is certainly down on power to the 250sx (52hp vs what I would guess to be around 45hp for the CR) but more than makes up for it in handling, suspension, and stability.

Thats funny, because I thought my 03 YZ250 was the best. :nener: Nah, seriously though, if the newer YZ250 models arent the best, they are indeed right up there with whatever is the best. Its funny you picked the 01 CR250, because thats exactly what my buddy has, he bought his brand new. Mike

Depends on what you are after. For racing the new ones are obvoiously the go, but older CR motors hit a lot harder. Not as much overall hp though, and handling obviously not as good, but the onslaught of power is nice. This is great for recreational riding. (did you guess I own an old CR)

I just voted w/ my wallet on the '05 YZ250, it's pretty insane. I also think the KTM 300's are awesome woods bikes (I'd prob. think the same of the 200's, but haven't had the pleasure of riding one).

I would say the best 250 of all time was the 1993 CR250...I rode it stock and it was a monster...Rode it again after being heavily modified with porting and exhaust....BRAAAAP!

Go into a thick loamy corner too slow ? Oh, in 3rd gear? No problem just Roll it on and....................BRAAAP!!

The bike could turn like nothing else and would have terrible headshake down the straightaway...

For a tight track with lots of turns and jumps.....The 1993 CR250 was the bike to have...The power was always on and the motor had a healthy deep bark exhaust note.

I agree with John. The 93 Cr 250 would be tough to beat.

I have to say the most exciting bike I have ever owned was my Pro Cicuit tunes 1999 CR250. To this day I have not ridden a bike with a motor as good or scary depending on your outlook. The chassis was on the stiff side but if you were fit and willing......... , what a bike.

My 98 KX 250 was the fastest 250 I ever had, but that was only for the six or so hours it would hold together between meltdowns. Overall, the 96 CR 250 was the best 250 I ever had. The last time I raced it I remember passing guys in the sand like they were standing still. I don't know about the 01, but my 00 CR 250 was so slow that it forced me to go to the dark side.

While I love my CR, I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that the 2004/05 RM250 would have to rank near the top. I haven't read of a single flaw. By most accounts, it is two-stroke nirvana.

I agree due to the fact that suzuki is the only one still putting some real R&D dollars into their 2strokes and their woks bikes are said to do eveything a 4stroke can and then some

My first 250 was a 1993 CR250. It would rip. I remember going to Mosier Valley and that bike would absolutely run past the other bikes, at least on the straights. I was never an A racer but on the straights, nothing was faster. IMHO.
