I just wanted tell everyone who has small kids or has ones that visit frequently to use a solid stand or strap it to the wall. A simple eyebolt in a stud with a strap could of prevented last nights accident.
My sister and her family went to her inlaws for a Christmas party and everything went great. After the party they headed out the garage to load the car. Well everyone with kids or has watched them know they can be a handfull and hard to keep track of. As soon as they hit the garage my youngest nephew (22months) saw the dirt bike leaning against the wall. NO one else even noticed it. Anyways he grabbed the handlebars and tried to climb on it pulling it on top of him. The 200lbs+ bike landed on him shattered his leg. I didnt get to talk to my sister yet but looks like it's broke in several places. Thankfully that was the only major injury he recieved. They kept him overnight and didnt do a thing to the leg except prevent it from moving. The specialist is coming in this morning to check it out and perform surgery if needed. This guy is good, did both my knees so i'm happy he was available.
I keep my bikes in a storage room where they cant get to them. So if you keep your bike out in the open where young children can get to them, please tie it down some how. This was preventable, but like most things, til you read about it you dont think about it.
A nice side note is that the hospital gives the parents a security code. NO ONE without the code is allowed in the room or even to recieve information about him via phone or in person. I thought that was a nice security move the hospital implemented. They didnt have that type of policy that i knew of before the Sept. 11 incident.
Hope everyone has a Happy and Healthy Holiday! I know our family is alittle bit more thankful!
