Twas the night before
Christmas and on the drive over
I fussed with the radio in the old Land Rover.
I drove and I cried and my stomach was knotted.
I glanced to the seat, a sickly poinsettia was potted.

Presents were scattered, exposed and unwrapped
Last minute details unfinished and gapped.
The Drive-through at Starbucks would need to suffice!
I’ll have five gift certificates!
And a Grande on ice!

I rushed and flew on the freeways that night
When my gaze lifted skyward,
I laughed with delight!
I thought it was Santa’s sleigh with that Holiday glow!
But it was only a Boeing banking toward ‘ol SFO!

In the end, I arrived
All frazzled and cold,
No need to worry about gifts, I was told
“We’ve plenty to eat and talking to do”
I accepted a cocktail and kicked off a shoe!

After dining and dancing and opening gifts,
After singing and laughing, the heart always lifts
So before you retire to the warmth of your covers
Make sure you remember to reach out to others.
A call or a note, or a sincere hand waved
No Starbucks Certificate can replace friendships made

Merry Christmas! Love Natty OXOXOXOXXOXOOXOXOXO
