I have been using HP2 at 32:1 in my past 3 500's. Now I want to try the Mobil MX4T in my new one so I am wondering is 40:1 better with this oil or should I stay at 32:1. And just to confirm....40:1 would be 1 pint to 5 gallons correct? And, will I need to make big changes to the jetting if I go that route?

I don't know a hole lot on 500's but you could get a ratio rite and it tells you all teh ratios form 2 gallons to like 4 gallons of gas

BelRay MC-1 at 50:1 and you'll be smoking like a baby.
32:1 is too much oil and the bike ends up running richer - since it is not getting as much air as a leaner mix per cycle.

If your bike is jetted correctly 32:1 will be fine. I think 40:1 on a bike is too little oil. If you are having a spooge problem I would use Maxima SuperM it has a lower flash point than most oils and will burn more completely.

Yep 5 gallons = 640 oz.
1 pint = 16 oz.
640/16 =40 so it's 40:1

Probably, but why make jetting changes to make your bike run well with less oil? If you run less oil, you will have more wear. If your bike will run correctly on 32:1 you will have more oil (better compression) and more protection.....
Take your pick.

Yes, 1 pint to 5 gallons is 40-1. I run 40-1 in my '87 CR500. I changed the jetting to a 172 main, 55 slow, and 1369 needle. It's spot on. It has a lot of years on it and still runs strong. I've never had any premature wear of the piston or bearings with very little spooge. If you add more oil you will lean your air fuel mixture. If you go with less oil it makes it richer so you may have to lean the jetting some. I've been using Yamlube 2R for a while now and don't get near the carbon deposits I used to.
