Any '02 RM 250 opinions out there

I may be able to get a great deal on a new '02 rm250, but was pretty set on a kx. I've heard the '02 is nice, and would love any information on it. The Suzuki reputation isn't great, but that's history to me. If the '02 is a good solid bike and is comparable to the kx, it may be a deal I can't pass up.

Thanks,

Mark

I posted this a while back:
2002 RM250 1st Ride !!!!!
We went out riding agin on 9-1-02, went to the cherry creek national area, lots of sand woops, and cedar trees, and sand dunes, Let me just start by saying, THE RM RIPS !!!
It has way more power than last years RM , It is right on par with the 2002 YZ250, the yz has a smoother power band, but the rm has a bigger hit in the middle, the peak power seems pretty close, I did try the flywheel off a 01 on my yz, and made it much snapier. but the report here is on the RM , the suspension feels like last years, which I thought was good, the seat is alot flatter, and you can really move quik on the bike, it feels light, and goes real straight in the rough woop sections, (not quite as stabile as the YZ)
I rode the bike for about two hours, and felt right at home.
I could ride either bike just fine, with out and problems.
So now I guess it is up to the mag's, I think they will like it. If they get one to test that is...

Too new; not many folks have them yet. Sure looks & feels good; yeah: I'd like one. Let's see: I'd need a flywheel weight, kickstand, 18" rear wheel, light coil/lights, perhaps an off-road revalve; don't need a big tank. no wide-ratio trans? Perhaps I can wait (years) for the Gas Gas...or machine DRZ gears to fit

Why not go out on a limb & let us know?

The rags've been saying it has more bottom response, not weak like RMs B4; kinda like the '98 KX motor in a (typ. good turning & well-suspended) Zook chassis. They like the new flat seat.

Speaking of seats, the KX is mighty thin; '98 being the last comfy "couch" year. And the '99-up # plates catch on boots? They say the KX is overdue for a makeover, the other 3/4 brands have been staying ahead with more yearly updates. Well big deal; it don't matter to me, being a trail/enduro rider; heck, my horse is decades old...

I own a 2000 CR250, so this an honest opinion ..........

I liked the 2001 RM250, even though MXA had a bad review, some magazines placed it higher than the KX250. Throw out the Magazines' opinions. The 2002 is supposed to RIP compared to the 2001, and I can tell you that there are a couple FAST guys at my local track that are rippin it up on STOCK 2001's.

One of those guys has been racing as a local pro for over 15 years and had a 2001 at the track last night. It belonged to the Suzuki dealership, right out of the crate. He said it is fast, .... very fast !!! Definitely faster than his 1997 CR250.

The 2002 is clearly faster than the 2001, which was a very good bike also. Now I used to own a 1991 RM250 and I absolutely loved it. I never had a problem with it whatsoever.

If you found a good deal on a 2002. JUMP ON IT !!! I would.

rm250 2001

Hi Marklx,

Last year when i decided to switch from yamaha yz250 to suzuki rm 250 (2001) i also heard about " suzuki bad reputation" and i was afraid to buy it, But i have to say that my suzuki and the yamaha are in the same level of quality. To be honest i also have to tell you that my stock bike was a little slower than my friend stock 01yz250, Now with a little work in my motor i think that both motor are about the same. The Yz is a little more stable at very high speed but my rm turn WAY better. Suspension are about the same

Bottom line is that don't pass on that great deal. I'm sure that you will LOVE your RM and don't let the 01 motor thing bother you, i've heard really good things about 2002 motor !

But it's just my opinion, Good Luck

This is so damned confusing. I've got friends yelling at me to only buy green, others telling me that red rules. Blue bikes are too big for me, so that's an easy one.

And the yellow rep is almost always bad. But I grew up on rm's back in the late 70's and loved them. I'm so confused.

btw, how does under $4400 new sound?:D :scream: :scream: :scream:
I started this hoping to spend around $3000 used, but keep creaping up. This is nutty, but typical I suppose, and part of the fun of getting a new ride.

At that Price, you'd better jump on it, otherwise you will regret it later !!

I LOVE the 2001 / 2002 RM's. I'll stick with my 2000 CR250 for a couple of years, at which time I plan to buy a second bike to keep around. That bike will be a Zook !
