Anyone have a Trans-Am or a Camaro SS?

I am looking into one of these, a late 90's to 2001 model, and I am trying to get some opinions from owners. Are these reliable? I drove one a few days ago, and they are AWESOME to drive.:p I'm just looking for some testimonials from anyone who owns one of these to see if theres any major problems with this car. Thanks

I owned an 82' TA so i cant help you on the newer ones but will say this. If it isnt new, then it was probably beat being the type of vechicle. With that said you can probably expect mechanical problems no matter what type the had in common. This is just from personal experience from me and freinds who have bought used sports cars.

I had a 97 camaro SS. Put 107,000 miles on it with no problems. Great car. I have 2 little ones now so I needed a larger vehicle.

They are bulletproof cars. My dad owned GM dealership for 12 yrs and I am Sales Mgr at a different dealership. The only complaint is that they develop a lot of squeaks and rattles very early in their life. Especially with a T-Roof.

Did someone say Camaro....www.mulletsgalore.com, camaro mullet just happens to be mullet class #2. They're fairly common around my parts. If you do get the camaro resist the temptation to sport the mullet, they go hand in hand.

Man oh man, I had a 69 Z28 Camaro.. I loved that car.
I know it isn't relivent but I just had a flashback.:mad:

No but I have a 99 GT Mustang conv with a 6 point cage that will smoke any GM car .... LOL

I used to race a '68 SS on a dirt track!
410hp 327 (stock was 300hp)

No idea of how the beast handled on the road since it was tricked out for the dragstrip immediately after it left the assembly line (by Jesse Ballue..local racer and promoter). A few years and a couple of weight jacks later and ..VIOLA...a dirt track demon!

I think the whole track cried like babies the night of the first race with this cherry....anyone who's ever witnessed high-bank dirt track racing knows what I'm talking about! :eek:

I miss dirt track car racing.....maybe it's why I love dirt bikes so much.

I had a '70 Camaro SS ... so I guess it was relivent to me :cool:

Heh heh, reminds me of my last "musclecar".
Got a 5.0 HO engine out of an '84 Mustang GT a while back.
"Warmed it over" a little bit and stuffed it in an old '80 Thunderbird of all things.
(the first year of the lightweight "fox chassis" 'birds)
Oh the looks i got from the camero/firebird/mustang crowd when leaving the stoplights!:cool:
I miss that car.......
Will have to scan some pics and post 'em.
It was pretty cool looking -w- that imron paint and Mustang GT wheels!;)

FireBirds/Camaro's are pretty sweet cars. The LS1's are bulletproof. They wakeup at around 3000 miles or so and really start to haul. Drop about $1500 into it and you'll be into the 12's easily.

I own a 77 T/A, I haven't driven it yet though. It's in a bunch of pieces in my dads garage. But my moms boyfriend has a '79 Z28, and a '00 SS. Both are great cars, and haven't given him any problems. I would try and buy a Camaro or T/A soon, since GM is claiming (again) to be stoping their production.

That's funny IDKTim. That was the first thing I thought of too. The maintenance of ownership of these cars is just too high for me. Of course I mean maintaining the mullet. ;)

My mom's got a '98 Camaro Z28 convertible, fully loaded, black/black. Very nice car. She wants to sell it and get a '02 SS or WS-6, since this is the last year of production.

Anyone interested? If I'm not mistaken it's got about 20k miles, in absolutely mint condition.:aj:

Go for it!

I have a '69 Camaro and a '93 Z28. The late models are the best all around sports car in my opinion. I've put 70,000 on my '93 Z so far with no problems. Still pulling as strong as it did new.

From everything I've read and hear, the LS1 is the best engine GM has ever built. Real race technology in a street car! If my wife wasn't wanting a four door as our next vehicle, I'd be buying a '98 up for sure.

i had an 87 formula w/ seperate coil,carburated,roller cam,and ws-6 suspension stock.(i threw that stuff in 'cause that makes it an 87 1/2) i loved it, i bought the formula because it had a better suspension,imo,than the stang or camaro, plus,it was lighter than the trans am,and that 5L was just itchin' to be massaged and made hot hot.:aj: sorry, don't get the mullet w the firebirds.....
