Should be all the same. My buddy had a '89 (E1) and I had a '90 (E2). Besides stickers, seat covers and handle bars, these bikes are the same. Oh yeah, the ignition timing on the '89 is 1 degree different.
All the internal parts are interchangable, the 90 had different timing as Dave indicated and the piston(can fit 89-94Es) was upgraded for better durability,(I got almost 10,000kms out of my first so it must have worked). The 89 and 90 had a problem with the waterpump seal not holding up too well but you can upgrade with a second small backup seal if needed.
The piston is actually the same from 86 up to 04 on the 200 so any year would work, the flywheel I think was also abit different they changed from a bolt on the 89 to a nut for the crank. My 90 and 94 both had E1 cast into the head.
I deal with Honda's small single and v-twin
motors at work alot, they upgrade part numbers sometimes during the same model year, every time they came out with a new motor eg:4,5,5.5,or 6 horse power motors the air filter number would change but the filter is exactly the same.So parts from 15 years ago may have had 10 different part numbers but they are still interchangable.
No the pistons are not the same but they will interchange 13001-1256 is for the air-cooled models only. The 1989 is 13001-1295 and from 1990 to now is 13001-1317. Just check out the price of the 89 to the newer ones. The piston rings for all liquid cooled 200 are 13008-1116 hope this helps.
