Looking for advice guys;
I'm about to buy bars and hand guards for my '01-220 and want something that won't bend. The pro-tapers are my choice right now but they involve new clamps. Are they worth it? Are there other marks out there that are standard size yet bullet-proof? Or do I bite the bullet and get the bars and triple clamps (about $270CDN).
Also: if I do, is there a preferred clamp? I was looking at the combo at the Scotts website, they all look the same(to me).
Thanks for any advice. Devo

pro tapers are good bars but i run renthal twin walls with the tag oversized bar mounts. there are lots of other good threads on here about bars and triple clamps so do a search.

A good 7/8 bar...

is the Tag X5. I've had mine for over a year and they have never bent. The Tags are 1 MM thicker than the std Renthall Bars and about the same price. They are a very good 7/8 bar IMHO plus you can use your stock mounts and save some $$$ :aj:

Try the Pro Tapers. I put on some Tag X5 CrHi Bends two weeks ago and ran a Hare Scramble and was unhappy with the vibration. My hands were numb an hour into the race and I had a hard time hanging on. The vibration was much worse than my stock bars with 8 onces of lead melted in each end.

Last week I filled the Tag bars with lead bird shot and rode about 70 miles of tight trails this weekend. 100% improvement but my bike weighs about 2 pounds more.

I didn't melt the shot, just stuffed a rag in one end, layed the bike over, filled it up, stuffed in another rag and put my bark busters back on. This may be the poor mans way of simulating Pro Tapers.

Thanx guys. I ended up geting renthalls in the Cr hi bend. The pro tapers were just a little more expensive however to mount them I needed the adapter kit which was almost as much. They wanted $125Cdn for them little buggers! Incedible. My Buddy has a machine shop in another town and I think I'll buy a set, copy them and return 'em. I know it's a cheapo move...I don't mind spending money when I think I'm getting my moneys' worth but those adapters are a rip-off. Thanks again.
