ATV Trails

I just bought two quads and would like to take a leisurely trail ride with my wife this weekend. I live in Midland and was wondering where is a nice beginner trail where we could enjoy ourselves?

Get some trail maps from the DNR here:

Gladwin would be the closest. Might be whooped out (frequently is). There are several options, but it's still a short trail. Parking lot is at M-61 and Center FireLane (south of M-61).

Higgins Lake is pretty tight on a quad, especially if you are new to the game.

The ORV Route from Denton to St Helen would be fairly close and make for a nice ride. Parking is on Waco Road, just west of M-18 (several miles south of Prudenville aka Houghton Lake).

Are you new to off-road riding?

Yes

Yes, we are new to offroading. Have a wife that rides my two up Polaris X2 with me. Also have a 7 year old that rides his 90cc quad. My wife rides the 90 mostly, but we let my son sneak on it once in a while.

Mike - a good site that's ATV oriented is atvoffroad.net

Note that MI law indicates kids must be 12 or older to ride an ATV and they must have gone through ORV Safety Training (State sponsored class). Just an FYI..

Also, the DNR's site has a link to all of the rules with information on upcoming safety classes and such.
