ATV's suck! (just venting)

I know we're all part of the off-road world, but ATV's should have more consideration for db's. I went riding today and was the only person there, then 2 more db's, and after that 2 ATV's showed up and they tore the pits apart. I could barely even ride anymore. :|

Did they tear it apart on purpose? You should say something to them. But i guess it not our fault thy don't have any balance.

Let me guess... they did doughnuts in the pits. I rode and raced a kwad waaaay back when the first quadracer came out... and never could understand the allure of stupidly spinning in a circle that seemed to overcome every person that bought a 4-wheeler. Perhaps it was my heritage of being on two wheels for 9 years prior to my 1.5 years spent on a goon buggy.

I thought it was just me!
We trail ride with a growing number of quads(growing because its easier to cruise around on a quad then to ride a bike IMHO). And you got it ,they all take great pleasure in getting stuck in the mud and tearing up sand pits and hills? I just don't get it, these guys are accountants, nurses and engineers, but take them off a bike ( yup they didn't do this when they rode bikes) and its like they transform into idiots. :bang:

Amy and I are looking for new riding buds, the strap the beer cooler on the back of the quad put us over the top.

PS TwinSpar, you need to copy rite "goon buggy" :laugh:

Yeah they did donuts, but the worst damage was from them powersliding around turns and making 8" deep piles of loose sand across the other tracks. I was still able to ride just a lot slower but the kids' small bikes couldn't make it through w/o the rear wheel washing out.

I don't know that saying anything to the ATV's would help. We're all trespassing so none of us belongs there. It's not like we could complain to the property owner.

Good job Bumphus...complain about db's, parking lot antics and you are teaching you kids to break the law w/ abandon like dear ol' dad. Might as well get yourself a quad helmet turned around backwards w/ some cold Schlitz in a cooler.

I too feel your pain, the pit that I like to ride in doesn't belong to anyone so everyone is welcome, a few dirt bikers built some pretty awesome dirt ramps, they don't mind if I use them because I build them up before and after use, atv riders on the other hand just ride over these ramps getting stuck, digging and tearing them up and leaving them wrecked, it is allot of work to build an 8' pile of sand with shovels, have the courtesy to build it up if you tear it down. I like all off road vehicles from sand rails to dirt bikes, no one has more right to ride than another , just have some common sense and respect , if you are too scared to jump something don't destroy it!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am 41 and just got back into the dirt after 23 years on streetbikes, I missed out on allot of fun, I bought a kdx 220 for myself and a pw 50 for my 6 year old son, we are having a blast and looking to upgrade bikes allready and will not be without one again untill i am too old to ride.

OK...no problem at all. Not once whether it be hunting, fishing,riding, camping in 38 years. We had 1400 acre farm and was raised to NOT trespass. I used to run fence w/ my grandpa and he let me know real early that fences were doing double duty and trespassers weren't welcome. Yeah, I've gotten on property by accident and promptly turned around. Totally different than knowingly trespassing and you know it. Far as I'm concerned he is just as damaging to land rights as the noisy guys

I don't disagree with anything you wrote. I used to ride in pits (because everyone else did), knowing I didn't have written permission. I have since seen the error of my ways and stay on land that my bike is approved for. I ride "legally" only because the DMV didn't have a classification for my bike and gave me registration and a plate. Otherwise, I would be limited to riding the only legal off road vehicle park in my state. I haven't had the luxury of having a 1400 acre farm.

Instead of condeming others, we should work on the legislators to open more riding areas and give us a means to legally register our vehicle for public lands.

People in LARGE glass houses shouldn't throw stones. ;)

When I worked patrol for the sheriffs dept almost every kid and quite a few adults would chime in But nobody owns this land in order to cover for their tresspassing. Hard to believe some of them even beieved that there is unowned land here in the US. The biggest problem was they were to lazy or stupid to find out who owned the land- I always seemed to be able to locate the owner in just a matter of minutes.

Probably not as deep as one would guess. I know many farmers that are property rich and money poor. The per acre price may be astounding but until they find a buyer (and another farm goes into subdivison again cutting down potential riding areas) they stay in that state

You gotta be kidding...yeah we are right up there w/ the Gates'. Lemme guess, da' man has his foot on your neck and won't let a brutha up to legally ride his dirtbike so ya'll been forced to trespass so you can get yours. C'mon you guys can do better than that.

This is a no excuse deal guys, you can wrap it in whatever "power to the people" wrapping you want but it is still trespassing and it takes support and riding access away for good.

You're all right about the trespassing, and I'm not justifying it, but I did find out who owns it (a corporation) and sent them a letter asking for permission. I never heard from them. Then I called my p.d. to find out there pov and they said as long as there's no complaints, they aren't going to come after us. There's not many houses there and it's just an old unused quarry so the tree huggers don't even mind. Db's have been riding there for decades, but ATV's are a different breed and there's a lot more machines now than ever before.

Like I said, I'm not justifying us being there but everyone knows we ride there including residents, the p.d. and the owner. If we start fighting amongst ourselves it will only cause problems.

There's only one legal riding area here in NY and it's 3 hrs away. They closed down the other two local riding areas this past summer.

For what it's worth I forgot to mention that it's not posted and there aren't any 'no trespassing' signs. Yeah I know - I don't own it so I'm trespassing.

That's how its always been here too...until the last few years. More housing and commercial contruction taking up all the farm land. Residential housing closer to all the old riding areas. The open pits are aggressively policed. The only places to ride in the state are a couple MX tracks and one offroad vehicle park. You can't ride state forest land unless you are street licensed and insured. Quads can't ride state lands at all.

I guess all the offroad vehicle dealers should close up and start rental shops at the three legal riding venues. :|

Its not cool to trespass, but its going to keep happening until our state provides more land to ride or confiscates all offroad vehicles.

Thanks for such a witty responce. I wasnt trying to pick you up or get you busted. The place you described sounded very much like a place I grew up riding. It was an old gravel pit/quary in Verplanck. Just wanted to see if that was the place you reffered to.

Yeah, NJ is as bad as NY you stated DB's are allowed in your state forests - all 6 million acres are closed off to off-road riding here in NY. Unfortunately db's have gotten mixed in with ATV's and to non-riders we're all a problem when the ATV's cause much more damage than db's.

Hey RocketRacoon - I work in Poughkeepsie and when people ask where I live I tell them 'across the river' and they do the same. No offense meant.
