Baffles and spark arrestors.

I have a 2006 CRF150F (Not the race modle) and my friend has a 2003 TTR 125 LE and we like the sounds of our bikes with the baffles out, now I'm not sure if it is a baffle because it says screen type spark arrestor on it but everyone calls it a baffle. I'm talking about that end peice on the muffler cannister that you can take out. Would it do any damage to our bikes if we took the baffles(or spark arrestors whatever they are) out?

The chances are good it will lean out the jetting causing it to run a lot hotter. Eventually this will lead to spark knock from the extra heat. If it knocks long enough or hard enough it will eventually destroy the upper ring, and piston ring land.

If mechanical damage is imminent, and that concerns you, that seems to be answer enough. I suppose you could keep writing Rich back and asking in increments: Is 30 seconds enough to do damage, five minutes, etc. etc. But that might be a little annoying. I'm sure that isn't what you want.

If the only reason you want to take them off is for the sound- and you are worried about mechanical damage to your bike - might I recommend you read these:

There's also a wonderful little story by one of the older members of the forum (I'm not sure who, or where it was posted), which illustrates the lack of need for loud to achieve speed, and a very humbled obnoxious trail rider with a loud pipe. Maybe someone else recalls who posted it?
