Baja Riding

I want to go riding with my two sons, ages 14 and 17 this spring in Baja. The tours sound great but are expensive. My sons are both excellent riders and out ride me all the time.
I am looking for any information on riding in Baja.
Is it feasible to load up our bikes and just head out and get in a good week of riding by having a central camping spot and riding from camp?
Where are the best places to go etc.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

I recommend that you ask this same question on the XR650R Yahoo group. There are many experienced Baja riders there.

My first guese would be don't do Baja the first time without someone who is familier with the area. Remember it's a different country.

Roger,

Give this a shot, if you have a GPS (if not, they are cheaper than the tours)
This guide will get you a good start at doing Baja on your own.

www.bajagpsguide.com

Give Kacey a call if you have questions, she is wonderful and very knowledgable about Baja. Tell her Rod sent you.

The book will give you a good clue as to weather you want to central camp or do a point to point. I think most people ride the p to p type rides.

GPS yes.

The tour I was on had gps along.
We would be at a dirtroad crossroad in the middle of nowhere and it would be on the gps display.
The yahoo group has some great guys on it too...
