Late notice: plan on doing a ride at Ballinger, 9am Sunday between the honey huts and loading area, if anyone is interested, please respond.

I'll provide entertainment between the mud and my worn out Dunlops.

Oh mannnn, many of us are riding the checkpoints enduro on sunday. otherwise i would have definitely joined you. FYI - the 4 Aces, a D-37 club, are going to add a new enduro to the D-37 series next year and are considering Ballinger as a possible location ! that would be fun ! Have a great ride and tell the guys I said "hello" ...

Yep; just got done reversing the rear tire, mounting a new one up front, and loading up.

Big: it's a bit far of a drive for you (3 hrs?), nonetheless you are welcome. Take the 71 north to the 210 west to the 5 north to the 166 west to 33 south, then the entrance is a few miles south of the 166/33 junction on the left. Go in until you see the campsite/staging area (scrubb evergreens), look for the dump stations on the right. White Toyota T-100 Xtracab with a old yellow and green bike, even older skinny guy and 17 YO teenager.

3 hours from Santa Clarita? No way, more like 70 minutes.

How is the Rangers at Ballinger going to be tomorrow, do they check every bike and patrol or is it chill?

Yeah - sorry: it was 3 hrs for me once from mid Orange County but I go the speed limit. From Santa Clarita it's 1/2 that. Corona - for Big - somewhere inbetween; it's worth doing at least once, so whenever you are up for it, let's do it when there's more planning - this time was a suprise with the recent storm front which came thru Thu/Fri.

I've been there ~doz. times and saw a ranger once. He didn't appear to be checking for anything except general lawlessness - never found any, I suppose. yet I heard some kid on a kwad ran into his pickup!

Shaft - Ballinger is much closer to you than Clear Creek.

FWIW, I am in Bakersfield and Ballinger is 1 hour southwest of me; Clear Creek is 2 hours northwest. To get to Cleawr Creek from the south, do not take Hwy 33. You would want to take I-5 and cut over to Coalinga just below Harris Ranch. The Clear Creek riding area is approx. 45 minutes from Coalinga.

Back to Ballinger - it has about 70 miles of trails, though maybe 1/3 of that is single track. The single track trails are pretty good, some switchbacks and tricky sections, but rarely is it gnarly or extremely technical. The wider trails include some good higher speed stuff and some sand washes.

Clear Creek is a larger area and it has a wide mix of trails, including some nasty stuff if you are so inclined.

Placelast - I hope you had a good ride. Wish I could have made it.

Went out to the enduro just before the first group took off. I didnt get the post from here this weekend so I was out roaming the pits not sure what kind of truck to find but thought maybe I would see you guys out there before your race. :bang:
We went ahead and rode the first course a while after the last line went off and rode maybe 10 miles when we ran into a group picking up the ribbons going the other way. Needless to say this bloodhound lost the tire marks and couldnt pick up the trail. Either way, what I did ride was fun. Not too techinical but fun nonetheless. We rode a portion of the second loop (or what I thought was the second loop) later but my riding partner got tired so we headed back to the truck. The second loop was rocky. Doable but definately rocky. Judging from the comments I heard about the third loop, I bet that it was super technical and rocky.

So lets hear it, how did you guys do?

Sorry I missed you guys but will hook up next time.

Toughest race I have ever done. I houred out about 26 miles into loop 2. Endless rocks of various sizes, colors, shapes and textures. Some rocks moved, other were stationary. Some rock were hidden under the sand others were right there on top. There were even signs telling you to "Walk your bike" down some rocky hills.

I have to be honest, I came out to see what this enduro thing was all about. After riding a portion of the first loop I thought it seemed like fun. Remeber I only did maybe 10 miles into the first loop and with my luck, all the tough areas were right after that. However, after seeing the second loop I was wondering why anyone would want to subject themselves or their bikes to this type of punishment. That second loop looked killer. Its really easy to explain the second loop, rocks, sandwash with rocks both in clear sight and hidden, more rocky trails, uphill and downhill areas with rocks and finally when you least expected it, more rocks along the flat trails. These werent pebble or fist type rocks that you simply ride over either. The sandwashes had to be extremely tough after fighting what else but ROCKS. All I can say is anyone that finished the second loop completed one heck of an accomplishment.

Sorry I missed you Rich, Scott & I didnt start until row 60 so we would have been in pits, just behind sign ups.

I did the ride as 1 loop, I thought it was an awsome loop, some chalenging terrain but everything makeable. Still lots of sand and rocks, just not to the stature of what the 2nd loop sounds like. I am just stoked I could SEE for the ENTIRE loop, couldnt tell the reasons why except I tried to control my diet the week leading too and ate a good breakfast in the morning, that and I actually slept for more than 4 hours which is unusual before a race.

After hearing how tough it was and seeing a lot of it for myself, Im kind of glad I didnt try this for my first time. I have to say though, I like the idea of having just 4 guys on your line a few minutes apart between lines so the dust can clear a bit. It sure beats 300 on a line like those on a desert scramble.
