Recently I was at the track and a guy made a comment about my bar position. I am 6'2" and have high rise Tag bars. I ride with the bar ends slightly aft of the fork line. He said that if I move them into the fork line it will make the front end feel much more stable. I don't really know the guy, so I was wondering if anyone knows about this. I just set them up for comfort, and have never really noticed a problem. I guess I'll probably try it next time I go to the track. Might as well.
That's the beauty of a part you can adjust in less than five minutes. If you don't like it, put it back. I have seen a few riders push their bars slightly forward in the interest of comfort.
There is also the method of pushing the bars all the way forward, climbing up and into the attack position, closing your eyes, and reaching out to where the bars should be. Have a friend move the bar to you, then tighten it up.
Be careful not to rotate the bars too far forward. As you rotate them forward the ends rise and can put your wrists in a very bad position...picture pouring two coke cans into glasses in front of you with your forearms rotated all the way as if you are trying to get the last few drops out of the cans.
I prefer to line the bars up (Pro-Tapers have alignment marks) in the middle position and get them forward with different triple clamps or mounts. That way you can be more forward *AND* your wrist position is still correct.
I have the same situation. I have my bars nearly all the way forward on the Pro Taper marks and in the forward hole in the triple clamps. I good rider I rode with commented that I should have the bars angled back more to flow better. I'm 6'2" so with the bars back my ass always slides to the rear of the seat. I guess it is a trade off.
