Forwarding some disappointing news. Bell's Angels were not able to secure insurance for their event. It is not clear at this time if this is going to become a major problem in 2003.

Also the Bremerton Cruisers have cancelled their event at Tahuya. I'm not sure this is the case this year, but that club often will survey the trail conditions and choose whether or not to hold their event based on likely impact to the trails. :thumb:

Is there anyone with connections in the insurance industry? There have been few claims on the many events insured over the years. Event insurance seems like a cash cow for some company willing to bother. BTW, these policies are to cover only nonparticipants. Event participants sign waivers and are on their own.

Finding insurance is a tough row to hoe these days. Following the 9/11/01 event insurance companies took a huge hit and are passing along their experience to all sectors they insure. This coupled with the fear of civil lawsuits and the increasing number of adverse judgments and lawyers eager to represent any and all type of spurious claims has the actuaries nervous. Worst case scenario might include liabilty for fire damage as the result of camp fire by a participant. It is nuts :silly:

The most imaginative people in the world are those employeed by the insurance companies to dream up reasons why they won't write policies to cover certain activities. After 10 years as a successful contractor with 0 claims and a spotless credit rating I couldn't believe the lame excuses I heard from carriers why they wouldn't write a policy for me after I split up with my partner. :flame:

The amount of money that a few insurance companies control is greater than some first world countries. The last time I checked the largest insurance companiy controlled assets equal to the 7th largest country in the world. :uh: :moon:

I'm going riding.
