I'd like ever ones input on this. What’s the best chest protector? I feel that either my helmet or my chest protector separated my shoulder when I hit the ground? It wasn't that bad of an impact either, I’ve had worse! I have an Acerbis zoom. After inspection of the chest proctor there was no physical damage? The shoulder protection is a net type, no pad at all. I've been looking around at various other brands and there all pretty cheap. The best I've seen have been hockey shoulder pads. But they lack enough chest and abdominal protections. Any and all help would be appreciated!

Neither helmet nor chest protector would have caused you to separate your shoulder. The bottom of helmets may break collar bones when head is tweaked over just right upon impact. All chest protectors allow full range of movement. Depending on your speed of impact along with your body weight will ultimately determine the foot pounds of energy your shoulder suffered upon soil sampling. A big guy at slow speed suffers as well as a small guy at high speed.

I've always used hockey shoulder pads. IMO - they offer excellent protection for off-roading because like hockey most hits tend to be in the front of the shoulder or side of shoulder. IMO - football or chest protectors are better suited to top of the shoulder hits; whereas, hockey pads potentially offer a tad more protection because they spread front impact forces over a larger area. Also, hockey pads also tend to be "tall" pads limiting side to side head/neck movement much like a Race Collar does. Newer hockey pads also offer spine protection. Downside - they are hotter, and they look oldschool (not old testament  ).

Ya, what DW said....

Regardless of the plastic we use to cover our bodies, impact force is impact force. I slammed sideways into a tree, and the impact against the side of my upper arm / shoulder left a nice cross-hatch bruise that matched the inside of the chest protector side-arm panel. Snapped the collarbone like a twig.

I like my "pressure Suit" type body armor. It can be hot when sitting still, but it definately give much better protection than ANY roost guard on the market.

my fox airframe has saved me a few times from some serious crashes. I have also taken a broken branck to the left peck area that left an indent in the plastic but nothing to my body. had I not had it on I probably would have had a piece of wood sticking out of my chest with some serious injury. plus the fit for my body type is very good.
