Howdy, fellow riding enhusiasts. I have a 1982 KDX 250 (don't laugh- it is a beast!). It is generally powerful as all get out, when it runs. I just replaced my coil, and I let my brother take it for a spin and he was revving it pretty high. All of the sudden smoke starts billowing out of the exhaust and it loses all power. What is this? I a guessing it is tranny fluid in the engine? Woul that come through the crank seal or the split between cases. I thank ye all for your time and help!

Thanks, Nick

You could of blown a crank seal or your rings are worn too much and leak. Also, is your spark plug ok? Check your spark plug and also try to kickstart the bike, does it have any resistence indicating compression or does it just kick easily?

thanks much. It has plenty of compression, so I think that it is the seal. Also, the exhaust smells like gear oil.

Well, if the exhaust smells like gear oil, then I definitally think its the right crank seal.
