Blown base gasket - weird results

I just noticed my base gasket on my 250 was leaking severely and was blowing mixture out the side where the cylinder attaches to the bottom end. The weird aspect to this is it ran fine with what it seemed like full power (until I noticed it). It is in the shop now but I am wondering if coolant would slowly leak out the overflow because of a bad gasket? The bike never overheated before and was wondering if the gasket would stop the coolant leak it had beforehand. :blah:

I couldn't see a blown base gasket causing it to leak out of the overflow... I guess you'll find out when you get it back. Unless for some reason the lack of base sealing would cause it to run hotter........ strange
