Any tips for reassembling the crank into the cases without Kawasaki's special tool?
I am planning to chill the crank in dry ice and pull it into the cases using a block of wood and the flywheel and primary gear retaining nuts so that I don't stuff up the crank alignment.
I honestly had no trouble with this. Maybe I was lucky but all I had to do was line everything up and slowly tighten each bolt around the crankshaft in a criss-cross pattern until the cases were tight together (my engine is still running too :). I have no tips other than that. Good luck.
Make sure everything is clean.
I like the idea of dry ice but why not just put
the crank in the freezer overnight.I did.
Seemed easier to me than stuffing around with dry ice.
You can heat the cases up but I found just a cold crank is enough.
Have a couple of beers before assembly.
Slowly put back together.
Once together give the crank ends a small tap with a brass mallet to settle the crank .
