There are 2 basic rules of thumb when breaking in a motor.
1. Drive it like ya stoled it. :thumb:
2. Follow the owner's manual.
The owners manual will detail the safest way to break in you new KDX.

Follow the recommended heat cycles and make sure to change the oil after the first ride.

Basically:
start the bike and let run until the cylinder is warm to the touch. NOT too long unless you have a fan blowing cooling air through the rads.
Stop the engine and let completely cool.

Take the bike for a 10 min ride making sure not to lug the motor or over rev. Try to vary the rmps. Stop and let cool completely.

Do the same but for a 20 run. Let cool.

Again for 30 min. Let cool...

Change the oil and your good to go.

Cheers.
