Ok new bike tips:
1. tear the bike down to the frame before riding. Grease EVERY bearing in the bike - linkage, wheel bearings, steering stem.
2. Tear down the brake calipers and lube the slide pins
3. lube and adjust all cables on the bike - throttle, hot start, clutch
4. empty all fluids and refill with with what you use.
5. check the tire pressure and check the spokes. also check the chain tension
6. install an extended fuel screw
adjust the bars, levers, brake lever and shifter to preference. Set the sag.
Then what I do is heat cycle the bike 3x. Start the bike, keep it at 2500-5000rpms until the motor is hot and coolant starts to seep from the overflow. Turn it off, let it cool about 1 hour, then do it again. Once that is done, pull the valve cover and measure the valve clearance and write it down for future use.
Then ride the bike how you want to. nothing special
after the second ride, we usually tear down the suspension and change the fluids. Revalve as needed and jet the bike as needed.
That is usually the generic of what we do - more if we are modifying out a motor. We never have had any mechanical DNFs in 5 years of racing now.
