broken clutch slave cylinder, whats next?

Yesterday i broke my slave cylinder due to a broken chain. After one lap that day was trashed, two rides before, i did a little crash and broke the handlebar mount - another poorly designed part IMO. I cant quite understand ktm, they have stuff like oversized handlebar stock and hydraulic clutch. Very good things, but when they make the handlebar mount so weak its no point of having a oversized bar - it will break anyway in a small crash. Same with the clutch, why make the cover so weak that just a little stone cauth in between the chain and the cover could break it and ruin the day.

The worst isnt that it cost money to replace those parts but that it ends a day at the track. Is there anything else i should protect or replace that may get broken in a crash or other ride related matters - so it wont ruin another day at the track.

be careful of the slave cylinder guard...

threw a chain on an 02 300 exc running down the road...the guard never broke, sure built strong, it held so tight that it broke the cases...

I will replace a broken slave cylinder for 80 bucks any day compared to $700 for cases....

I fixed the slave cylinder with epoxy steel and it worked fine, also its thicker now than stock. I will add a bit more for even more protection.

I have a pipe guard after a big dent in my first small crash that also broke the handlebar mount which i have made custom ones. I have also made a very strong radiator protection, superior to all products i have seen.

However im still worried that im gonna find another flaw, cause that what i have to call the handlebar mount and slave cylinder, simply poorly designed.

No bikes perfect, Can't say I've ever heard of the handle bar mount breaking before. Why did the chain break? I think the chain would be considered a flaw also, but not on KTM's part.

I know no bikes are perfect but making parts so weak they cant take a small crash or a broken chain isnt good at all.

Talked to my local mx-shop if he had a stronger handle bar mount but they were out of stock. It was the #1 selling ktm part so its quite a big flaw.

Why the chain broke was because it was worn out and not a flaw. But on all other bikes i have had a broken chain havent ment more than a new chain or just a chainlock and then out ride again.

Dont get me wrong, i like my ktm its the best bike i have had so far but i just cant understand how they can make some things the way they have.

I dont think i have asked that. It would be out of the question now when i finaly have a bike i like, when its running that is.

If you are talking about the triple clamps, Then I do believe that there was a recall on those in either late 02 or early 03, I would guess that if your dealer is selling a lot of these , it is probably not due to a flaw but most people in the states will buy a different offset to improve handling.
I'm not sure how recalled parts are handled over there but maybe yours was never exchanged for the upgraded part.
Glad to see everything is back together though!

No im not talking about the tripple clamps. Im talking about the handebar mount that looks pretty much the same on all ktms from 85cc to 990cc. Its made very thin and bends easy. Also its held in place with two bolts in such a way it deform the contact area on the tripple in a crash.
