This past sunday i went over the bars which resulted in a badly broken lower leg. Both bones are broken with a spiral break to the tiba, had surgery sunday night to screw the mess back together.I was riding with a group of 12 rider`s and it still took over 2hours to get me out of the woods.Well at least i`ll have plenty of time to play on the internet.I`ve been riding for over 30 years and this is by far the worst injury i`ve had.The worst part besides not being able to ride is having to listen to all the i told you so friends and relatives,i`m sure most of you have to listen to it yourself.Maybe it will heal faster than the doctor thinks so i can get back on the bike.

That sux, jly! I'm waiting for the day when I crash hard. Sounds like you'll make a full recovery though. Just don't push it 'til the doc tells you to.

What and where were you riding?

I know exactally what you're going through. I broke my lower right leg and got put in a cast monday(only one of the bones though). It's gonna be a while before I can ride again.:(

Been there done that. Sorry to hear this. Get plenty of magazines, motomadness and try to stay comfortable. By the way, how you lay now, when you sleep, you will lay like that for a very, very long time.;)

Good luck with a thorough recovery . . .

Been there, done that. I did the femur, the kneecap and the acl and was out for 22 weeks for work purposes, and over 7 mos. to ride. At least you won't have to have knee rehab, or scar tissue to worry about right? That is not bad for 30 years of riding at all. I bet if you did it skiing, or a car accident you would not get near as many "I-told-you-so's"?:)

I pulled my ACL completely off the bone 14 weeks ago this coming Friday. Just do what the Doc tells you, and do it RELIGOUSLY. I just ran (read slow pace jog) for the first time today and it felt awesome. Since I rehabed hard and listened to my Doc, I am way ahead of schedule. I bet you could beat that 4-6 months time frame like nothing flat...

Oh, and take those vitamins, every little bit helps! Good luck brother!!

I thought only took 6 or so weeks for bones to heal...... I broke my foot and thats all it took. I know the tibia is a much bigger bone but it's not a femur. Does anyone know why it takes that long? What happened to 6 weeks? I need some info. Any Doctors here?

Thanks for all the encouragement, this is allready getting boring. As to what and where ,I was at a private riding area a group of us lease, good dirt -no rocks but lots of roots because of steep hills-thick woods. My personal ride is a yz250f i`ve only had for two week`s but i was riding my sons 2001 cr250 when i crashed.I really like the yzf,too bad im not going to get to ride it this year. The best i can figure,i hit a small tree with the front brake leaver and an off angle root at about the same time.It happened so fast i had no time to react. We didn`t have hand guards on the cr because he motocross`s ,i`m a beleiver in hand guards, last time i`ll ride in the woods without them.As far as the long recovery time, the doctor say`s the tibia is a very slow healer and also a weight bearing bone,it`s also a spiral break with splinter`sand my age (53) does`nt help either.I was shocked at the recovery time too,i`ve broken my feet 3 times, wrist once.Good riding guys and be careful, this sucks

i think it's because it's a weight bearing bone. i also broke my femur once. i was in traction for just over six weeks followed by a body cast for eleven weeks more.

I broke both the bones in my lower leg also. One was a compound,so it was pinned. I was off work for 6 months. Good luck with the healing.

Guess who gets to do his yardwork!!

Haha broken bones really do suck!! I've been there and done that enough(broken arm in '88, leg in '89, and ACL in '97). Oh wel, since he took care of my stuff when I was hurt I guess I can mow leaves and carry in firewood and clean up the limbs that fall out of the trees. AND I still have two very dirty bikes two clean up, a '01 YZ250F and a wounded '01CR250R. We'll both be lucky if Mom doesn't kill us before this is over and done with!!

I'm sorry. I'm out too with a torn ACL. I go in to surgery Tuesday. Being injured sucks. If you want some reading material while you are laid up, I can recommend some books to you!

The part that really sucks is that even after you get your cast off, you'll have this little stick at the end of your leg that used to have muscle on it! Atrophy sucks! Plus, your ankle probably won't remember how to move.

Do the therapy! I was out 6 weeks last summer with just an ankle sprain, and since I never follow my own advice ( :scream: ) the sucker still ain't right.

Good luck man, keep that 250F all polished up. Kick it over once in a while just for giggles!:)

Hey XRPredator, don't worry, I won't let the little 250F set around too much!! :) That bike is lots of fun, if I can sell my '01CR I'll probably race it next year, seeing as how jly51(aka Dad) won't be needing it. Anybody need a good '01 250? email me dave31@iswt.com
