When I start my 06 kXF450 with the radiator cap off, you can see the coolant moving. When I rev it a little it makes LOTS of little bubbles. Is this normal? I read that it indicates a blown head gasket??? I have about 15 hrs on it so far.
What is the reason behind running the bike with the radiator cap off? Do you suspect it overheating or something or you just did it for the heck of it? Whats the reason? :whoa:
Good questions. Thanks for asking. Yes it has been overheating and experiencing coolant loss. It is steaming out the over flow. No coolant in the oil. and yes I read to start it with t ecap off and look for bubbles. I am just wandering if that meant rev it up and look for bubbles or idling? No bubbles when idling but rev it up and it looks awfully bubbly in their. and that can't be good for cooling things down is my guess.
If the leak is not obvious, like a head gasket blown. Then you will need to have the head and cylinder checked for cracks, magna fluxed. If it is the head gasket, the head will need to be re-surfaced, and the top of the cylinder. Check that the gasket and dowels were properly installed. And yes, you rev it up and the bubbles get a lot more pronounced! Now quit running it$
