My roommate and i just bought dirtbikes a month ago. We have been running 40:1 ratio. Yesterday when we were riding we both did some high speed passes (drag racing). He said he got to 6 gear 1/2 throttle. I got to 4 or 5 WOT. This was the first time we both pushed our bikes that hard. After that both our bikes smelt like something was burning or smokey. I touched the radiator cap it didn't feel warm. Did we do any harm to our bikes? Is it because of the 40:1 ratio, do you need 32:1 when your running it that hard? Any ideas on what happened?

My bike: 01 YZ 125
His: 98 YZ 125

Thanks,
Brian

sometimes that happens with my bike when im riding hard... I think it's the clutch material burning causing the smell, but I could be wrong...

No, I think that it's just the crap getting good and hot in your pipe!! Don't worry about it !! It would probobly be better to run 32:1 If you keep running hard !!
