Should I buy a new bike and do payments on it? Or would it be better to save all winter/spring/summer and buy a used bike next fall?

Im looking for 125s, and if I save I will have ~$2500 to spend next fall. Soo do you think I should wait until next year and just plain out buy a year or 3 old bike? By that time the 03 bikes will be out, and another season is a looong wait for me not to ride b/c i didnt get to ride THIS season due to being short on cash and a broken bike.

BUT, would it be better to finance a brand spankin new one? Like if I went for Yamahas deal on a yz125 - 0 money down, 0 interest till march, and 0 payments till march. I will have a job by March since i turn 16 in Feb. BTW - I have a car, and I have to pay gas, insurance and everything too when im 16. What do you think would be the better choice?

The best time to buy a bike is at the end of spring because riding season is essentially over, (not here in CA). Alot of people dump their bikes in late spring and you will get a better deal than waiting for fall because that's when everyone else wants them. Try and buy around June or so and see. Getting a used bike is always a gamble. Getting a new one is great if you have the money. Don't get into alot of payments so early in life, I know it sounds great but they do add up. You won't have any money to spend on other stuff like parts or track money! Get a good used bike next summer and make sure you check it over real good! When you are ready to buy, ask someone here for advice on looking at used bikes and you'll get alot help. Good luck

Unfortunately bikes don't hold their value once they leave the showroom. You can get a great deal on a used one that hasn't been ridden much. Becareful of the one that seems too good to be true!

I was kinda in your situation two years ago. I decided to buy used. I bought a '98 KX125 and it was great! i busted my hump real hard with a second job and went and bought my first new bike in Oct this year. Wow, it does feel good to buy a brand new one, but work yourself up to it. I would definately not finance one if you can work around it. The 0 0 0 deal sounds great, but you still have a pesky payment every month. I just find it hard to say to people, "darn, my dirt bike payment is due this week" Just go ahead and do your homework on used bikes, then save up and buy a new one in 03 or so...And if you keep your bike in good shape, you can still get some cash out of it when it comes time to sell her! Good luck!

One other advantage to buying used is that you may find one with all the goodies: after-market pipe, bars, hand-guards, re-valved suspension, etc.:D
