You have to start with more light or a longer exposure. Light is everything especially indoors. A really crude fix in Photoshop will give you some idea what more light could bring to the party.

When the light is better there will be also be less "noise" (random junk) in the picture, so even a lower end camera will take very nice pics.

Here's the same pic with some simple noise reduction.

Shooting outside in sunlight will give you a much better idea of what the camera is capable of producing. Sunlight is full spectrum light so it tends to look more natural and not add weird coloring to your pictures the way incandescent or halogen lighting will.

IT's going to be difficult to get good shots of the black face... it'll take a lot of light and perfect exposure.
luckily its more the whole dog shots that im looking for from him. now on the other hand the white one tends to give the best facial expressions.
as far as the light in the house point blank its terrible as you can see.
but thats why i put up the C+C to figure out how to get better at taking pics

Rich is right. Get some outdoor shots for the best results. Also as Rich is demonstrating, post-processing is a big key to great photos. Get good with photoshop and who cares how well you can use a camera. LOL And if you're like me you're no good at either one. :(
