Hope it's not bad, lots of interesting pieces could be lost.

Sounds like it's controlled so maybe just minor damage. I was impressed how many of the citizens had formed a human barrier around the national treasures to protect them.

I had heard the museum was near to a fire, but not on fire itself.

Certainly many great treasures are there. I've been there once for a few hour to hit the high spots, but would have loved to have more time.

Can't help but wonder if, before things settle down, there will be a 'fire' at the museum, and certain items will be 'destroyed'. Only to turn up decades later in private collections.

The fires were in internal court yards so it sounds pretty minimal.

Man, I was in Egypt last year and visited a couple museums - amazing stuff in there, would be such a shame to lose. I hope the situation over there improves soon, for the sake of the Egyptian people and also for the sake of history in general!
