Calling all older CR gurus: What rear rim will fit my 1987 cr500?

Ok, the Honda shop mechanics have all been too wet behind the ears to answer this question other than, the serial numbers are different so the rear rim must not fit!

I have a 1987 cr500 and need another rear rim. I have been told that the 1987-1988 rims will fit. However, there are other years, I believe up to 1991 that also use the 18" rim. I am curious if anyone has ever used one of the 1989-1991 rear rims / wheel on their 1987-1988 cr500 and if it was a simple swap. I know 1986 and before will not work because the brakes were different. :clue:

Thanks

I'm no guru, but I have an 87 cr250 that needs a front wheel (cracked). In my parts searches I've discovered that according to WBros the front rims/hubs from 84-94 on all cr's 125/250/500 are the same. At one point they did change rotors, but they had the same mounting holes. They list rear wheels 89-91 on the 500. (when buying a new wheel with talon hub). There is no listing for anything older. So, if you know the 86 has a different brake, and the 89-91 are listed the same. Then one could assume that the 87-88 are the same. OR the 87 could be totally different than the 88. :bang: Sorry, I guess I was no help at all. :uh:

I know the 87 and 88 will interchange. The only difference is that the 87 is gold and the 88 is silver.
