Hiya,

Im new to the MX world and have just bought a CRF80F 2007 model for the kids.

Having been a road rider I have some understanding of bikes but was hoping for some MX specific tips.

What are the main things other than oil, air cleaner and plug should I be checking (or replacing) before heading out.

The bike I bought seems to be a bit 'loose' so I was thinking of bringing it into a shop for a good once over but I know they just take you to the cleaners when you do that.

Also, is there anyone who has a link to workshop manual? I have found having one for road bike very helpful for day to day stuff

Cheers

Newmxdad :-)

I'd recommend a paper service manual so you can throw it in the toolbox or garage and you can make notes in it.

The xr's are bulletproof bikes. Usually the things that go wrong are lack of maintenance. If it looks neglected pull it down and lube all the bearings, levers and cables. Check the spokes, this may be the reason it feels sloppy. Also, get the wheels off the ground and try to move them side to side to check for worn wheel bearings. Make sure the brakes are clean and adjusted. If you're unsure of it's history a quick check of the valve clearances and a carb cleaning wouldn't be a bad idea.

Once you go over it really well you can rest assured it will be a great bike for years to come. I hope you started saving for a bike for yourself. ;)
