Well, I'm getting back into riding, so I'm looking to get a bike this spring. What to get is the only problem. I haven't ridden for years, (with any regularity anyway). I have a brother with a CR 500 I've rideen some, but it is a little too much for me. I will be riding mostly fire roads and trails with some dunes for variety. Maybe a little mx if I get brave....LOL. I've narrowed the search a bit-------WR426, KTM520, Suzuki DR Z400. I have never ridden a KTM, but all the tests I've read say good things. I'm kind of leaning toward the WR. What do you all think? Any opinions are appreciated.

Lostrider...

I was in the same shoes 3 months ago. All my buddies rode and I was bike- less. My friend had a cr500 - too much for me. I decided to buy a KTM 620 and it was a fun bike but - Heavy and vibrated a lot. I traded it in on a 2002 Cannondale 440. I'm a big guy 260lbs and this bike rocks. I ride mostly trails and little track. It's super nimble and smooth. It has a lineal power band it pulls all the way through the gears. The fuel injection is amazing. i really like the KTM but I'm very happy I changed to the 'dale. Check them out b4 you buy, you just might take one home. Good luck.:scream:

lookie here, i'm pretty partial to the 520 since i have one in the exc version. i've been riding for more than 20 years and i've never had a bike this versital. i'm mainly a woods rider; however, i did show up at an MX start with my headlight on and took the holeshot. i didn't make the podium, but the guys that got around me had a little taste of the MI soil. i'm big and tall so the ktm fits great. just put the gas in and go. i also have a ktm 380 which is very 4 stroke like. the 520 will require some consistant maintanence. keep up with it and the bike will reward you with a big grin.
