I have a 2001 cr125. I had wanted to seell it and get a 250. Well it wasnt running so finally i decided to just have it rebuilt. Bottom and top end. What brand crank do you recomend. Is it something I can do myself. And does eric gorr do this. I know the cylinder atleast needs honed or bored(price?). I am also thinking about a 144 kit or porting.. Any advice is appreciated

Depending on the tools that you have the bottom end will be a problem. You likely will need a tool to separate the case halves.

I just did the top and bottom of my 97 CR250. I used an engine kit from www.motosportoutlet.com. It came with a hotrods crank, wiseco piston kit and cometic gaskets. I think it was in the neighborhood of $400.

Looks like your kit would be about $325.

does anyone know about the 144 kits? do they or porting require a larger carb? I just pulled the motor last night so im trying to decide what to do once i get money

If the cylinder is trashed, you may want to have it bored to 133 at the same time. It should not cost so much more. You cannot have the 144 kit on this particular bike. The cylinder wall is too thin. If you decide to change the crank yourself, you will need to buy a flywheel puller and fabricate a case spliter.

Rich Rohrich could probably forward your request to him. As far as I know, his Forward Motion race shop is closed/on hiatus, but I think I saw on another thread that he is doing work elsewhere.

While I can't vouch personally for his work, there are a TON of guys on the board who've said good things about what he does, his book is a MUST for anyone who works on dirt bikes (any bike) and his insightfull posts on a broad range of topics lead me to believe what people say.

I am hoping to evetually convert my 01 YZ125 into a 144 and i am planning on having Eric do it when I have the cash...

yeh i run hotrod cranks there pretty good,thats what id suggest ive never had any problems

the reason im putting in a crank is i messed up .all my fault dont rub it in or tell me how dumb i am. I was using an impact to put on the flywheel, (not long) well i couldnt get it to work so after time the threads were work out as in gone, The local shop said they could try and re tap it just for luck. Well would this work ? any help they are1 a local shop, but they are smart and no stealership. They dont even sell new bikes and are fair on prices. As in if they cant figure it out they dont charge you 50 dollars for that hour

can do hole motor for around 800.00 will bore 2 133 port case match hot rod crank new bearings wiesco piston jody at backbay motor sports 603 569 3200

thats reasonable, how much just for the 133 kit? And what is case match? I can have a local shop put rebuild it for arround150(labor).
