I need a little help on this! My kx250 seems a little weak on the bottom and is a little hard to start when it gets to operating temp, about 4 or more kicks out of gear. It starts up normaly when cold. I took a compression reading with the engine warmed up and the throttle full open and the best reading i could get was 125psi. Is this pretty low for a 250? and would this cause the lack of a solid bottom and the hard hot starts? My power valves are pretty clean and the top end only has about 10 hrs. on it. If this is my problem would boring it .080 over and replating bring a substantial increase in the bottom and mid? Thanks for any advise..............

If you're going to spend the money on boring and replating, talk to Eric Gorr ( www.eric-gorr.com ) and go with the 2mm overbore w/porting. This will give you a wider stronger powerband and the increase in bottom end power will make you smile. :)

thanks binky, i thought mine was a pretty low. I'll probably just ride it until the end of this season if it makes it that far and deal with it then, i've got some bottom end noises reoccuring again i thought i resolved last fall. I figure i'll just tear it all down and redo it from top to bottom. thanks..............

If you only have 10hrs on that piston, why not take it out, inspect it for damage, and re-ring it if it looks good? I can't see piston rings breaking the bank. Why risk it, especially when the season is just begining?

As i mentioned before i had some problems last fall with a bottom end rebuild which was initially done last spring and 30hrs. later my main bearings started making alot of noise so i had the guy go over it again and since then i've put 10hrs on the motor and on the top end i just reused the piston, after 30hrs. it wasn't that bad and i just put in a fresh set of rings because i wasn't too sure about the bottom end. I know the jug needs replated but i wasn't sure if the compression was low enough to cause the problems i'am having with it right now, and i did check the compression with the engine warmed up................. thanks for your help!
