So I had the bike out today and it seemed to be running noticeably better. I have a pro circuit pipe on it but was wondering if u guys would use the jetting specs from there website? Right now my Main is 10 bigger then what they list. Mines at 185 and there's lists at 175. I'm just don't have somewhere to test the bike after its been fixed because i live in the city and my bike is all the way out in the boonies at my gf's. Just wanted to know if u guys would change the specs...

I think i need a cr500

On a bike that old you could have a whole bunch of performance hindering issues. A good service shop should be able to tell you what needs to be done to get it back up to par.

I got my bike running better after i putted boyesen reeds in it i have fmf fatty my main is 180 not sure what my pilot is the reeds seemed to equal it out very nicely.I also have the 1988 CR250 that wasn't hitting hard at now its hitting equally to my CR500

Nooooo. Elevation wise, 1500 foot increments on jetting changes comes to mind? 69 miles high? If its under 1000 feet, stock would be fine for a baseline. Temperature will be more the course of concern. You could probably find the elevation and temperature correction tables on the net, but the manual is so much easier. If you have not figured it out yet, no one can tell you a baseline for your bike, they are all different, just like people. Even lean, just for jetting, should not hurt your bike.

69 meters you metric crippled geezer!

I looked around and found anything from 66 to 114 meters.Although the jetting would be the same for anywhere in that range. And I second the JD Jetting kit.

Ok so should i follow the specs from the book or the pro circuit website? Obiously i guess i should try both and see what works better but i'm just wondering which one i should start with. Mine is 185 right now and it says 175. I'm think it should be leaned out i'm just not sure what specs to follow. I hacve a factory manual as well, but again i have the pro circuit pipe.

What about all the other jets? You did not read the links for jetting? Stock should be a fine point to establish a known baseline for jetting, not competing in a race. Isn't a meter about 3 feet TRex?

39.37 inches to be exact. And I bet I'm actually older than you. :whoa:

Yeah there's more to it than the main jet.If you're rolling along in 3rd gear about 3,000 RPM and roll into it gently what happens?

Pffft! 8 months? HAHA your 50! Doh! 2 more months. I live in the U.S.A., metric measure still has not taken mainstream. 40x69=2760"/12=230'? About sea level Zomiemama, Have you checked the reeds, top and bottom ends, timing? Anyone vouch amsoil is good for top speed? Did you put a new silencer on as well? I do not believe the jetting specs from any pipe shop in Cali. Summertime, you need to lean it out. Look at the plug, it can tell you how close your timing is, the main jet, and generally how its burning. You can set the pilot circuit in the garage, use the air screw. Its all in the links.

I checked the reeds there fine, timing is good top and bottom end are fine, it has the stock silencer and a Pro Circuit Pipe, the plug seems to tell me the bike is running good. I'm going to drop the main jet to 175 from 185 and set everything to pro circuit specs and see what happens.

By going from 185 to 175 you are dropping the main 4 sizes. That's a pretty big change.

You are very close to sea level and your Canadian temps are probably much cooler than Pro Circuit's California testing areas.

If you think you are too rich on the main, why not just drop two sizes to a 180? Much safer, especially if your weather cools. If the bike runs stronger with the 180 than the 185, then consider going down to a 178 or 175.

It takes only minutes to change a main. On most bikes, just loosen the carb clamps, rotate the carb and pull the float bowl drain plug, and the main is right there.

Personally, I'd find a nice spot to test, where you can do a few mile loop. Warm the bike up and take it for a spin with the 185. Then put in a 180 and run the same loop. If pefromance is improved, contemplate going leaner one step at a time (178, then 175). If the 180 performs worse, put in a 182 or go back to the 185.

Keep in mind when the weather cools, you will want a bigger jet in there.

I'm considering just buying to JD kit. I've been reading many threads and it seems like its the way to go. I don't really have anywhere to take it for a mile loop where i can have my tools plus i'm not mechanically inclined and my dad (the mechanic) just bitches to help me. so i'm gonna have to bring it in if i can't fix it. I live in an urban area and the neighbours are always complaining. I really appreciate the advice though, thanks man. Wouldn't it make sense to follow the Pro Circuit specs if thats what i have as a pipe on the bike?

Next time you go riding just spend some time sorting the jetting. No one starts out great at tuning it's a learning process. So start the process. One thing I'll share, like Dave said small steps. It's safer and good to see the improvement that can be ahd by small changes.Remember the jets aren't tuned by RPM it's throttle opening.Maybe this will help.

thanks alot man that puts a better picture in my head about what does what. I just wanted to thank everyone for there input and i can't imagine how annoying it is for a newb to ask stupid questions. I'm going to go through the manual and get a list of stuff i'm gonna need so i'm ready to do this.

Thanks again i'll let you guys know how it goes!

So i took at break from the bike. It was hard but i did it. I ordered the jd jetting kit and can't wait to get it installed. I'm hopeing this is gonna make a big difference seeing as the low end on the bike is pretty much gone. Can't wait to try this jd kit. Also if anyone knows of any graphics for this bike i have some Ceet graphics but can't seem to find any. I need the graphics for the tank and the wings.
