CR500 - Projected nose plug - Eric

I was looking at Eric Gorr's site and noticed a recommendation for a projected nose NGK plug under the tuning tips for the CR500. Has anyone tried this plug and what were the results? Is this plug recommended only if you have re-shaped the head as he outlined or would it provide any gain with the stock setup?

Also, it says to use a "6"heat range plug. Why so hot?

Maybe the projected tip displaces enough volume to change the compression slightly? Just a wild guess though...
