can you adjust the timing of a CR80? My daughter's bike is a 96....it seems like everythging is bolted in with no adjustment marks whatsoever. I'm getting a little backfire when starting so I think the timing may be off...but then again, not sure how it could with no adjustment

My service manual says no:

"Ignition timing cannot be adjusted since the ignition control module is non-adjustable. If ignition timing is incorrect check the system components."

It also states:

The ignition timing is correct if the index mark (an inverted triangle at the 12 o' clock position) on the crankcase is between the "F" marks at 5,000 rpm.

Good luck-

could be lean on the pilot...worth pulling and cleaning the carb. especially considering the age of the bike. pull and clean the pilot jet. look through to make sure its clean.

yes you can adjust the timing by filing the stator plate a little. Be careful only about a 1mm is needed. Also use a round file.
