Cracked ribs and elbow

Well I've had a run of bad luck lately. I race mountain bikes and have done so for years. I've never hurt myself seriously. I've never seriously injured myself on my dirt bike either. So tonight, of all things, I'm getting out of my truck at school and step right out onto some ice in the parking lot. Whammo. I went down hard on the left side. I couldn't even get up for a couple minutes it hurt so bad. I couldn't breathe either. I thought I was going to pass out at school. I'm feeling okay now as long as I don't twist or laugh or breathe in real deep. I certainly hope I didn't crack my ribs but I think I might have on a couple of them. I'm not sure about my elbow either. It's pretty swollen but I think it's just banged up. I just can't believe that of all the crazy and risky things I do, I have to get hurt getting out of my truck! It is possible that you bruised your ribs. Bruised ribs hurt almost as bad (if not as bad) as broken ribs. I've done both. If they are broken, you will be able to feel them move when you put pressure on them. They will likely take 6 weeks or more to heal. As for the elbow, I cracked mine while in college and it hurt for a really long time. Every time I rolled over in bed onto my elbow I got a bad shooting pain. That lasted about 1 year.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. It happens to us all every now and then.

I haven't been to the hospital but I don't think my ribs are broken. They're just bruised up pretty bad. My elbow on the other hand, I think it might have a tiny fracture. I don't know. I have fractured ribs a couple different times before and it hurt way worse than I am hurting today. I was in some bad pain last night but felt a lot better today. My elbow is bothering me worse than the ribs and it's not even that bad. I feel so much better today. It's weird. I'm going to do a hare scramble on Sunday. Hopefully I'll be good to go by then! I'm laughing with you...not at you. Isn't it funny how we part ourselves in harms way just to have fun, and we get hurt doing simple things.

You just never know.

you need to make up a better story about how the injury happened... what about ice racing your dirtbike? practice for the X-games? etc...
