I am in the process of rebuilding my son's YZ85, as he trashed his transmission.

I have read Eric Gore's tips for crank installing, and I will probably go that route, but I was wondering if it would be a problem if I installed the bearings on the crank first, then heated the cases (while freezing the crank assembly) and installed the whole assembly instead of just the bearings and then the crank. This seems like it might be easier, but I'm not really sure.

Thanks,

I always freeze the crank and put the bearing out in the sun. then drop them on and refreeze the whole assembly. then drop the crank with bearings in the case halves as you have suggested.
