Now that the "Big Four" 250F's have been tested... lets get em on the same dyno machine!!! And line 'em all up on the scales while they're at it. That's what I wanna see!
The Kawi/Suzuki and Honda look more '125ish' than the YZ, meaning smaller physically and slightly lighter. I have the 02 Yammie, and my biggest complaint is the 'larger' handling feel, which it seems as though the newer 250F's are addressing.
A great time to be a dirt biker!
I just hope they keep the exhaust noise level acceptable.
at the german GP this weekend, someone took a RMZ250 to 14th place on what was supposed to be a stock bike! i read the crf article, its totally bogus that Carlsbad is my nearest and most favourite track but was closed last year yet industry magazine dorks and factory bigwigs get to ride there.:(
Transworld MX has a good first impression and video on the CRF 250R sounds like it will be a winner for Honda in the shootouts. http://www.transworldmotocross.com/mx/bike_test/article/0,13190,479063,00.html
Actually... reading between the lines (as far as the motor goes) it still sounds like the Yamaha is for me. They make the Kawazuki motor sound "fun" and "smooth" but not as strong as the YZF and needs to be clutched like a 125 (yuck!!). And the Honda is for "agressive" riders and doesn't rev as high as the other 250Fs, therefore requiring more shifts. One thing I love about the YZF is you can do a 50-60 foot jump outta a turn (with little/no clutching) in 2nd pinned (stock gearing/motor/exhaust). I ride lazy and hate clutching and shifting.
Now... in handling - sounds like the others may have a leg up on the YZF... so I would love to ride em and see if thats true. Sounds like the Unicam CRF might be a little lighter and less top heavy than the DOHC motors as well, which could be a nice benefit.
Man, I can't wait to test ride green, yellow, and yes... Red
I just watched the Transworld video and the motor is impressive! You can see the hit of power out of the corners. Looks real fast! Maybe a bit short on top but a good aftermarket exhaust will cure that or some VP ultimate 4 will also be of help. Keep an eye on this bike Nikki, as handling is just as important as motor. The CRF is low and lean. Ride Red!!! :)
Hmmm Reading the RacerX review I was under the impression that the CRF was high reving and strong through out..
"with very strong acceleration. In fact, it handles engine speeds in the 13,000 rpm range (according to the info sheet we got), which is 2,000 more than the 450, and “stratospheric” levels for a single-cylinder engine."
well just thought I would point that out, and I hope that some of these mags are sending out the same testers as they did for the KX250f that way they would still have a fresh memory of that bike to compare with
