Does anyone know what the cam chain timing should be on the 04 CRF50? Sorry if I am wording this wrong..my son rode his new CRF 50 pretty hard last weekend and then we got caught in a flash flood and he rode it several times through some pretty deep water.....needless to say, my husband is now rebuilding it for my sons first race TOMORROW but he forgot to order the repair manual when he ordered the new parts. The bike is all put together but he needs to set the timing?? Any help???

It's almost impossible to do it wrong. Take the left side cover off, align the mark on the rotor/flywheel with the mark at 12 o'clock on the case, then, up front, align the circle on the cam chainwheel to the mark on the head (have to remove the round cover to see). Be sure the valves are closed (rockers on the "heel" of the cam lobes). btw-to get the round cam gear cover off, loosen the bolt (8 or 10mm hex head, I think) on the opposite side, then tap it to pop the cover loose, then unscrew it the rest of the way. Yes, the bolt goes all the way through the head.

I had a picture once upon a time, but I can't find it now...

I'm almost positive it's the same, regardless. I don't think anything's changed on these. I had the big bore kit on mine too, and it's the same procedure.

-Line it up the bar to the right of the "T" with the mark on the case.
-Line up the "O" with the notch in the head.
-Don't for get to adjust the valves BEFORE you start it! .002 intake .003 exhaust
-Order service manual from Honda.

No it doesn't make a hill of beans if it's stock or modified the proceedure is the same. Just make sure the track knows the bike is not stock or there could be some tears or you might even have to take it apart again while there if contested.
