Just wondering what affects a "D" slide has compared to an equal sized round slide on a 2 stroke motor.
What does it do to the power band and throttle response.
Most, but not all flat slide carburetors can deliver fuel more accurately at low throttle openings. In addition, at full throttle, there is nearly a smooth bore for less airflow restriction. So the idea is that the flat slide carb is better and makes more power. Reality is not so simple. The old Mikuni VM round slide style carbs are easy to tune and seem to run OK on nearly everything. Not perfect mind you, but OK. Some of the older Mikuni TM style flat slides never run right on certain engines, and are nearly impossible to tune. To make tuning and repair matters worse, certain parts are not available or replaceable.
For most situations, using the OEM carb with careful tuning gives results that are good. However I can think of a few older bikes that run better with say, a Kehin PWK.
So I suppose the answer is that in an ideal world a flat slide carb would run slightly better, give slightly more throttle response and make slightly more power than a round slide.
