Daft Fuel Tap Question

Hi peeps, can anyone tell me which way the fuel tap points when its on. I know sounds daft but after having various bikes with different taps on I'm not sure. Was out at the weekend & got to 73 miles b4 I filled up. Surely I must have hit reserve, or was I already on reserve<S>. Previous bikes have had an arrow point on the tap to show which way. The obvious solution would be to pull the tank off when empty, although I always put the bike away with a full tank just b4 i get home.

Cheers

Im not sure if the 89-94's are the same, but on is with the longer side down, and reserve is with the longer side of the valve up.

You may well have got that far without hitting reserve. A friend of mine claims to have done 110 kms in a race without hitting reserve. He gets by with almost no fuel stops compared to the 250 mxer I race.

You can determine the answer on any bike cuz the tap will only rotate 180º. I've never seen 'off' marked at both 9 and 3 o'clock.

The 'pointer' of the lever is going to be the one that points to 'off' @ 90º of available movement.

Sometimes it's not so easy to tell WHAT the lever is pointing at!
