Are you going to Desert Storm at the end of October? We're aiming to
(who knows if we'll make it though). All I've heard about it is that
it's real dusty and comments about the river crossing, which I know
they've bridged now. If you do go, definitely come say hello and take
my bike for a blat. Our weekends are pretty much taken up for the most part except a couple of November and December.

I know I should email you, but I'm also wondering if any other Kiwis
are looking at going? (Kiwis don't seem to read the places to ride
forum).

Yeah I am keen to do Desert Storm as some friends are going & said it was a blast last time.

Never been as it clashed with the annual pilgrimage to Philip Island to watch the GPs & this year I am staying on for a wedding.

When is it? I can’t see it listed on Silver Bullet, but I do seem to remember from a Kiwi rider advert it was more mid than late October??

It's definitely 27-28 October. I'm sure silver bullet used to have an
article about it, but stuffed if I could find it. However, if you go
to the MNZ site & go to the date, it has it listed for then. We'll be
going with a friend (or whoever intends going from Auckland), and
meeting up with a Wellington colleague of Henk's. At least that's the
plan for now. The weekend before (Labour weekend), I want to go to
Tauranga on the Sunday to watch the trials nats.

Yeah I’ll just be back from Brizzy a few days before. I missed the Trials nats when they were here in wgtn, but mainly as I’m trying not to talk myself into upgrading the Beta. Well, till I finish the kitchen. . .

Desert Storm:
Hey I’ve just been talking around trying to get people organised, did you go last year?

Heard it was great when it was following the Tank-tracks but last year was out the other side toward Raetihi & was mostly metalled roads & dusty dusty dusty.

Do you know if they have changed it this year?

Never went last year, as from memory our club was running an event
that day. Haven't actually met anyone that did go (or not that
they've mentioned it). I think they're using the same tracks as last
year, but with some new. There's a 30 or 50k challenge section being
put in & all the tracks are open both days.

To be honest, the Minginui/Kaingaroa ride put me off riding anywhere
but Auckland for a while, but I'm more used to the bike now (it took
me a loooooong time) and I want to go on rides where we're not
involved with organising them.

You going to ride while in Aus? If you don't subscribe, there'll be a
magazine on the market by then called Sidetrack - check it out. It's
become subscription only to NZ, and to be honest, it's the one
magazine I really do enjoy (it's only bi-monthly, unfortunately).
Always makes me want to move to Aus.

Just been speaking with a couple who did Desert Storm last year & were flowing with enthusiasm to do it again so that’s good enough for me. I’ll be there, assuming picket lines let my plane leave Brizzy & Air New Zealand still exists.;)

Yeah yeah sure mate. . . but don’t think I’m not biding my time. ;)

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit,. . & my favourite,

which explains a lot about my warped personality. But then again I’m not the one with the Bondage persona.
