I’m driving into work this morning at the usual Missouri snails pace so I have plenty of time to let my mind wander yanno. And my mind starts to drift off to that place I’m sure many of yours has at some point in time…….

You’ve just won the lottery or you’ve inherited an ungodly amount of money from some long lost distant relative and you have unlimited amounts of cash. Of course you donate large amounts to various charities but after that, because you’re a dirt biker at heart, all you can think about is traveling around the country (the world even) riding your bike with you buds. You even think about infiltrating XRPredator’s country because that’s the only way in hell you’re ever going to meet the man…….but I digress…..

You’re going to need a private jet; one that can easily load 50 bikes + gear and aprox 50-60 passengers. I’m talking completely custom here. Lower level with built in workshop etc. upper level for the passengers, complete with lounge, http://www.bizjetphotos.com/jetfolio/jp1r1a.html :)
The outside of the plane is painted black with the Dirtrider.Net logo on the tail.

What I’m wondering is (obviously just for fun) what type of plane would fit the bill? This is for those of you who are knowledgeable about jets. I assume it needs to be the “cargo” kind where the back end opens up??

I’ve seen a program where you can buy a used, out of service jet and then hand it over to this company who will completely gut it and make it as custom as you want.

Or……… perhaps you would just buy a regular ol’ passenger jet AND a custom DRN Semi that just meets you at your intended destinations. Of course then you would be restricted to just this continent…………hmmmm, what to do, what to do……

So can I but the plane may be over a large area.

Why not just have the factory worry about delivering the new bikes just before you get there.

Actually, the jet is going to need a crew, I'm reserving the airline attendant (Stewardess) position for FredT. :p

You know this thing could really pay for itself in the long run. When the DRN's aren't using it we let movie stars charter it. Then we just dump the ones we don't like out the cargo hatch. "It was an accident!" :confused:

The hard part would be getting Madonna, Sarandon, and Robbins in the plane. J-Lo needs to go too.

Someone beat you to the idea. I read an article a few years back about a C-130 filled with bikes that flew to Mexico for a week's ride. Seems like Lyle Lovett and some industry types were behind the project.

It's a great idea. When do we start? I have $8.11 to contribute.

Hey.....!!!!! What about a train!?!?!?!?! Picture this: We're barrelling along the track somewhere in Wyoming, and spot a pristine meadow with natural jumps, fresh green grass & nearby trees. I, in my super-cool engineer's hat & overalls, promptly toot the horn, yank on the brakes and a mile later we screetch to a halt. Then, just like in Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, the cargo doors open & hundreds of iron horses launch out to conquer the terrain.

This way, you never have to worry about airport security, rental cars, crowded riding areas, etc.

First off, we're talking a big jet, so we need a crew. Robin and I for the pilot's seats. We've got to have a flight engineer on this board, so that'll take care of that.

The airplane I recommend is the mighty C-141B.

The Air Force is getting rid of these so we should be able to pick up a small fleet for resonable dollars.  I'm instructor qualified and still have the manuals.

We can land it on dirt strips if need be and it has air-refueling capability.  Non-stop to Australia next winter? :yeehaw:

Most cargo planes are either converted or factory modified passenger airplanes. Too much trouble with loading the bikes on the upper decks though. The 141 allows ride on, ride off. If we really do well we could upgrade to the C-5 or C-17.

Either way, count me in. :)

What about an old C-130. We could land most anywhere and with JATO units we could get it back up.

We need to include a small cadre of equipment to properly groom the site after we land. Maybe we could get Guy to bring his new trackcat ...
