I am supposed to get a deal this year with bikes at cost ('04 KX250 and 250F) What do dealers pay for bikes? They list at $5999 and $5699, whats the markup?
Anybody know?

There isn't that much mark-up in bikes as you think. Dealer cost for 125's are usually around 4 Grand give or take and they retail for 4999. Some times the manufactures have dealer incentives like 600 bucks for every bike they sell right before the new stuff comes out, so they can either make more profit or sell them cheaper.

Dealers make little on bikes... assuming they aren't selling at or above list. The hope is you come back for service, parts and accessories.

If dealers make $1000 per bike then I'm going to open a dealership! I'm pretty sure the profit margin on them is less than half that.

Thanks for the responses. You are all pretty close. My dealer finally gave me some numbers. He said the 04 KX250 was abour $5000 dealer cost and the KX250F was abour $4800, give or take a little on each. We do have to pay a bundle for shipping in Alaska (extra $250 per bike)
Thanks!

2 stroke 250? I'd venture to guess that's WAY BELOW dealer cost OTD. Either your friend is mistaken, the dealer jerked his chain, or the dealer won't be in business much longer

A kx250, they ended up getting 2 bikes free ( i figure they must of placed a big order) and got them as a incentive.. Kawi could be having a problem moving kx250's w/all the hype on the thumpers..WHo knows.. Funny thing is, this dealer has been open since 1967 ( i beleive that is what he said) Te lowest my dealer would go was $5100 otd, which is good considering you get 15% off on accessories..
