Yeah, i was thinking an 85 and learn better then get a 125 later.
How big are you on your 85.
I can get a old 1989 KX80 2 stroke for $500 plus helmet, goggles, boots, and gloves.

I'm actually selling my 85 right now, because I am to big for it. The kx80 sounds like an alright deal, but it sounds like their may be problems with it for going that cheap.

There aren't any problems with it, it starts first kick, it's my cousins boyfriend so he wouldn't like try to rip me off. Also i found a 1989 KX125 on craigslist. I'll post the link.

Basically the same price. I'm not sure which one, the kx125 might be getting sold today though. What do you guys think? The KX80 is already a little small for me though.

not very long.

You are plenty tall enough for a 125. RM85 guy is just telling you that you should buy an 85 because he happens to have one for sale. And since you both live in "I don't know" it's quite convenient.

Or maybe he is just giving an honest opinion on what he thinks will be the right bike for him.

well, in my honest opinion, anyone over 5'6" and growing is ready for something other than a minibike.

and I'm a shade over 16, so I have a few years experience.

I say go for the 80. Ride it for a season and upgrade. Take the 500 bucks you have left and go get all the gear you can afford.

Unless all that stuff fits correctly it's useless. If it does then you should think about a chest protector and some decent riding pants at least. How about goggles? If you're going to be jumping big or racing a neck protector is also a good idea.

If your 5'11" and a TTR125LE feels too big and a stock 85 feels just right you either have the most disproportionally short legs of any human on the face of the earth or are looking for a toy bike, not something for serious off-road or MX use.

I'm 5'7" with a 29" inseam and could not possibly ride an 85 at any speed in a safe manner without making major modifications, the bike is just too small.

The decision you have to make is a rather tough one.

Saving your money, and getting a better suited bike is a FAR more better idea.

However, the time you could be riding instead of saving your money is kinda hard to replace too.

If you do get the 89' KX80, I rather think that the money you try to save up will be spent in trying to keep the bike running. This is true for any bike. You'll be going through premix oil, and transmission oil, gas, parts that wear quickly (chain and sprockets)...tires...

It will surprise you how much it costs to own a bike. The expenses don't end when you buy it. Do you have family/friends that will be helping you out with the smaller stuff? It adds up quickly...

I would say wait around for a 125 (KX, YZ, CR, or RM)...and don't pick one up any older than a 1995. For 800 bucks, you should be able to find a 1998 or so CR125, and have 200 left for gear.

I wasn't trying to get him to buy my bike. I said he might need to start out on an 85 because he is very light to be riding a 125. Anyways, I guess he could get a 125 anyways due to his height. I was paying more attention to his weight than his height.

Do a search for an RM 125. There's a 94 for sale in your area for 1000. Offer him 800, and then spend 200 on gear...
