i know the magazines gave the 03 kx 250 a bashing, which i believe was based on the fact that it didnt rev as high as some bikes,,my 99 didnt rev as high as i'd like for it too but it was no big deal, it still had more power than alot of riders could use. Looking at the dyno, it seemed like it trailed the yz till the upper rpms..

but to the ones that have rode an 03, did the bike crank well, idle, and run smooth? and not "run bad" like something was wrong with it?

thanks.

I've had mine now for about a week and I love it. Those bike mags are the writers opinion in most cases. Notice I said opinion and not fact. Dyno's don't always tell the whole story. All I care about is if I'm happy with it and not what some stupid mag editor with his dyno says.

I currently have two '03 KX250's in our garage. I've raced both, and absolutely love the lil' green bikes. The motor on mine are bone stock except for the spark arrestor. I went up two teeth on the rear sprocket and left it at that (49-51th). The power delivery is smooth right off of idle and then hits extremly hard and pulls till its out of breath. It is a very pipey motor and has excellent throttle response. I had my choice and was able to spend saddle time on several 250 MXers before my purchase. I decided on the KX for its well sorted package of handling, stability, and strong mid-range orientated power. A excellent combination for a dynamite woods weapon.

Take the magazines for a grain of salt. I've logged so many miles on both of my KX's, it runs no differently then any other well maintained 250 2-stroke I've ever ridden. For some people like myself the KX will work better; for others another bike like the YZ will work better, like for my boyfriend. Even he can appreciate the KX's razor sharp cornering prowless and small feel. It's just a matter of personal preference, but as to running 'right', there is absolutely nothing wrong with the bike!
